I am bumping this again for those interested. I just got off the phone with Kerry and will be getting a SITREP sometime after he returns to CO on Monday.

He (and I) wanted to stress that if you are planning on attending please sign up now! Spots will fill fast as we close in on the 6 month mark and if you wait you may be out of luck.

Get on it people!

Looking like 6 locked in, 7 waiting on clearance from the brass, that's 13.

With a max of 20, those last few spots could fill faster than you think!

Hint, hint ;D

Class at 10-11 students. Waiting on verification from about 6-7 more. If they lock in that means there will only be 1-3 slots remaining.

Just got the registration link squared away for the med class with Kerry Davis of Dark Angel Medical. The link should take you to the registration page, if not click "Purchase Products" and then "Training." If you have any other questions please let me know!

The original link to the class link is not working.  Here is the correct link:

Still trying to swing this class but life has spent some of my budget.

Getting close! Haven't heard from Kerry recently but if you're interested I'd suggest hopping to it. You may lose out and only have yourself to blame!

Looking forward to seeing you there!

I wanted to take this but was unable to. I'm curious to hear feedback on this course from those who attended. If you attended this course, please post your thoughts, I would greatly appreciate it.

I attended the class.  I have zero background medically, so I went in with a blank slate, other than things I'd read/heard in 40-some trips around the sun.  Also, please notice I'm not going to say Instructor Bob is the greatest!  If for no other reason than to keep Thomas from beating his head against his keyboard  ;D

One of the things I was worried about was that I'd get lost in medical jargon.  Thankfully that fear was unfounded, and the instructors both did a good job of teaching in a way that I could follow easily.  The only time I recall not knowing an acronym they were using was in reference to a nasal airway tube thingy (that's probably the official name) but I figured it out pretty quickly.

The content was organized so that it all related back to the central objectives:  Stop the bleeding, start the breathing, monitor for shock.  I like when things relate back to an easily remembered objective, so this worked for me.

We received a fairly easy to follow text, and most people had purchased a D.A.R.K. kit as part of the class.

Day 1 was all lecture and discussion based.  Day 2 was about half of the same and then practical application of the some of the supplies in our kit.

I have nothing to compare the class to, so really all I can say that might be meaningful was that I believe I came away with knowledge of how to appropriately respond in an emergency, with an emphasis on major bleeding.  I think this type of training is underutilized by most in the gun community, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend medical training to anyone who spends time on a range in any capacity.  I would imagine that most who didn't attend would say this class was cost prohibitive.  I think I ended up paying $450 and that included the kit.  They now have an option where you can take the class and not buy a kit, so that brings the cost down about $130.

If you have any specific questions, I'll be happy to answer them.  This probably seems fairly fragmented, but my son woke us all up early so he could puke... so I'm running on just a few hours of sleep.

Having spent around 5 or so years in the medical field, I was pleased to find that this was definitely taught from a civilian/un-initiated POV. The information was delivered in a clear and concise manner, with a multitude of short jokes thrown in for good measure.

The class was well worth the money, because when you figure it out, 16 hours or so of lecture based instruction plus practical application experience is not cheap, and added to that you have quite a bit of money wrapped into the kit itself.

I am speaking with Kerry regarding arranging another class for the next calendar year, I will start another topic once I hear back.

THANK YOU!

....and thanks for the review.  That's exactly the sort of information I'd like to read when I'm looking around for potential classes.

Thanks for the reviews guys. Once the date was announced I had to back out due to a previous engagement. If this comes around again, and it doesn't conflict, I would really love to take the class, especially based on the reviews.

Just beware, one of the prerequisites is that your name is Dave.  Just kidding.  The first three of us to register were all Daves, so we felt pretty special.

In all seriousness, though, I carry my kit with me almost everywhere.  I'm a teacher so it goes in my bag with me every day.  There were several of us at the NFOA meeting in GI that had our kits on us.  So I guess my biggest endorsement is that I carry that thing with me nearly all the time.  I've added a sharpie, about three feet of duct tape, and a SAM Splint.

Good move Dave. A SAM is a wonderful addition to the kit.
