Obola: Could be the 1918 Flu Epidemic on Steroids
« on: October 15, 2014, 09:04:16 PM »
Wikipedia sez:

The 1918-1920 (just two short years) worldwide influenza epidemic infected 500 million people all around the world.   Somewhere in the range of 50-100 millions (some 3-5% of the world's population) died, mostly young folks previously in good health.  If it had happened just two years earlier, the English, French, and German (and later, US) armies in WWI would have suffered massive casualties from the epidemic.

Wiki-p further says, "A large factor in the worldwide occurrence of this flu was increased travel.  Modern transportation systems made it easier for soldiers, sailors, and civilian travelers to spread the disease."

Now all of that was 100 years ago when autos were in their infancy.  No international air travel at that time whatsoever.   Compare to today.

The Obama administration thinks it's pointless to try to quarantine this disease or take steps to limit travel from afflicted areas in Africa to the US.

This Obola is lookin' to become some kind of incredible Obomination

2 years from now, it may not matter if we don't get this under control.

Just for Giggles...........

and for possible parallels between the 1918 epidemic and Obola, check out what happened right smack here in Nebraska in 1918.

You'll recognize the names of the places:  http://www.flu.gov/pandemic/history/1918/your_state/midwest/nebraska/index.html

It was pretty grim.  Just 100 years ago.   Hope what goes around doesn't actually come around.

I read up a lot on the 1918 flue, some called it the Spanish flue, but it started at Ft Riley Kansas, the military took it over to Europe WW1, then it came back on troop ships after the war,

X-Actly!

It was dubbed "Spanish" flu because...........all the warring parties (England, France, Germany, Austria, et.al.) clamped down hard on secrecy in the press and public announcements.   They were at war and didn't want to show vulnerability to the Other Side.

However, Spain was neutral.   And didn't restrict the press.   So frequent reports came out of Spain about the progress of the epidemic.   And then.....  Everyone began calling it the "Spanish" flu.  Instead of the "Kansas" flu.

Or..........Obola.

What bothers me the most is that while Barry is willing to issue travel advisories for US citizens, he's ordering US troops INTO the area to "maintain order".  Word is that these will be National Guard units.  A friend called last night in the IA NG says he got an alert the other day to prepare for movement/deployment.  To say he sounded nervous would be the mother of all understatements.

These people have no say at all in where they get sent or the ability to question whether appropriate measures are being taken to cover the occurrence of personnel being infected.  The infectious nature of this disease will necessarily complicate every phase of this deployment from logistics to patrol operations.  MedVac would seem a real stickler should someone get seriously injured.  Does anyone think one of the Euro bases would welcome a wounded GI possibly carrying the virus?

I keep marveling at all the stupid s#!t this president comes up with, but this is window-licking brilliant.  My uncle told me of the decontamination procedures equipment went through after DesertStorm, essentially breaking down HumVees to piles of parts, reassembled, loaded on ships then do it all over again stateside.  I can't wait to hear Barry ***** about the military budget again....
