NSC-NE No Longer Offering CHP/CCW Classes
« on: November 13, 2014, 03:58:51 PM »
Just got word that the National Safety Council - Nebraska will no longer be offering concealed handgun permit classes due to low enrollment.

(Appears that I had the final honor of teaching their last class last week.  Only had four (4) persons enrolled in that class.  Previous classes over past months usually maxxed out at 15 persons, with a waiting list toward building the next class session.)

NSC-NE will continue to offer their Basic Pistol/Omaha Open Carry Permit classes.

That's the story.

I always thought it was odd that they taught CC classes in a building that was CC unfriendly.

What kind of demand is there for the Open Carry Permit?  Is it mostly folks pursuing employment with a security company?

They offer a dual-purpose course which is Basic Pistol/Omaha Open Carry Permit.   It includes both handgun newbies and (as you suggested) uniformed security guards who need to open carry a handgun in the City of Omaha.   Such as armored car personnel, lobby security staff, bank employees, and other security-type employees.   Including perhaps the non-uniformed, handgun-holstered open-carrying man who walked into the bank with me the other day carrying a satchel-sized sack.

Classes are held about once/month.  Range qualification is a requirement.   The class is very similar to the NE CHP class, both in format and length.

And Mudinyeri is quite correct:   NO HANDGUNS in the NSC building.   Posted conspicuously (sorta).
