Handheld CB antenna help
« on: April 28, 2015, 09:31:38 PM »
I have a GE hand held CB transceiver, model #: 3-5980A.  It has a weird antenna mount for the rubber duckie antenna.  It's a 9/32 threaded mount.  Solid, not a coax thing.  I am wanting an external magnetic mount antenna for it but can not find any adapter that would allow a regular antenna mount, nor can I find an antenna that has the right plug in by itself.  The unit has a second place for an antenna plug in.  It looks like an RCA jack.

I have looked all over the interwebs and even locally;... nuthin'.  Can you guys help?  Thanks.

Here are a few hints.

From what I was able to gather this was a radio specific connector for the antenna, and since it is out of manufacture you are going to have a hard time finding one.  As for the external antenna jack, read the replies in the 2nd link.  CB antennas require the same type of co-ax cable as ham radios (11 meters for CB) and is considered an HF tranceiver.  But if you are in the market for a good reliable CB I think I have one in the garage I can make you a good price on.

Yeah, I found the adapter I need from Digi-key.  I had to go to some of the engineers at work; multiple ones and many websites to finally get what I needed.  It cost me a grand total of $5.01 to get it to me.

I wanted to send out as many requests for help as I could knowing this was a very "off" type of connector/adapter.

Thanks for all the help & suggestions.
