Mountain Lion shot 120th and Q Omaha

Good thing.  But remember, according to G&P you shouldn't shoot one unless it is attacking.

I think we should really pressure G&P to file charges against the City of Omaha and the officers individually.

Seriously, though, they did the right thing.  That's a meal waiting to happen for a Mountain Lion.

I like the guy who says they determined it really was a Cougar.  Like they really, really need an expert to figure that out!

And then there is this:  "In attempt to find out how and why the cat was here, if there's any sort of injury or any kind of disease or something that might've affected the cats judgment," Baker said.

Honestly, you can't make this s**t up.

Even after they found out it was a cougar, they still reported it as a mountain lion throughout the article.

If you need 16 rounds to kill a cougar at that range ... you need some serious firearms training.

The back leg was probably where a lot of the 16 rounds went.  :)

Unfortunately, probably a lot of buckshot hit and wounded the animal before it was finally dispatched with pistol rounds.  OPD would have done themselves a huge favor by calling in a hunter who hunts with a pistol or shotgun slugs.

Yep.  CCI "quiet" 22s usually do the trick, but I might've reached for something a little bigger with that kitty.

Ernie posted on face the that the Omaha Humane Society was in route with a tranquilizer. He had a  picture of the cat sitting in the corner by the building looking pretty innocent...  Neither Ernie or the news can be trusted to report what really happened. It does not sound kike it was a very clean kill.

And what was the "humane society" going to do when it woke up from the tranquilizer with a broken leg?  Not exactly seeing a lot of "humane" options there.

Maybe a cast and a crutch?

I'm of the opinion that the situation was handled poorly.  1 or 2 men should have been able to keep an eye on the peaceful kitty until someone from the HS or Zoo showed up to knock the kitty out.  Under peaceful surveillance - if it had made any serious attempt to leave - then by all means dispatch the critter.

Now - how quickly do the tranqs work ? I dunno.

But this entire situation reeks of not handling it right and wussies.  I, for one, am not amused.  I understand being afraid of a big kitty - having owned over a dozen domestic kitties, the thought of a 100lb kitty is terrifying heh... but still BOOOOOO.

The leg thing ? Known AFTER the fact.

I totally understand they didn't know about the leg. was just giving that as a reason as to why it didn't run away

They could put the cat out in other ways after they have her a look over.  Buck shot and XX shots of 9mm or 40 is not a clean kill on large game.

I'm with unfy black eye for OPD not handled well. Why not call out the swat sniper and put one clean shot in her?

Also I don't trust the media to report the correct story any longer so maybe she got aggervaded who knows
