Unthinkable - William Aprill. Council Bluffs, IA 11/21/2015
« on: September 02, 2015, 03:36:40 PM »
Who: William Aprill - Aprill Risk Consulting

What: Unthinkable: Concepts and Techniques for the Gravest Extreme.

Many instructors present material on surviving physical attack and some others address the aftermath of that defensive violence. However the preparation for being attacked, what Craig Douglas of ShivWorks has referred to as the pre-kinetic phase, is given limited, if any, attention by the vast majority of trainers and even fewer students.

This presentation will review common mental and philosophical errors made by practitioners as they plan for what they hope will never happen: a determined attack by a violent criminal  intent on killing you and those you love.

Attendees will be exposed to a practical method for undertaking the pre-need decision-making necessary to a sound self-defense and survival mindset, providing increased awareness and a clear path to maximize their capacity for self-protection.

When:  November 21, 2015, 9am - 5pm.

Where: Council Bluffs, IA.

Why: Development of an adaptive defensive mindset and effective techniques for facing a drawn handgun when unarmed.

How: Through intensive, interactive lecture and hands on, practical skills development.

Cost: 225.00

Additional Details: Contact Rob at rob@lhgk.us for course announcement and registration.

Just go.  Dr. Aprill is a wonderful resource.

He's a regular guest on the Ballistic Radio podcast.

I had the opportunity to see William April at the Rangemaster Tactical Conference this past February. Looking forward to hearing him speak again and attend a full class. Happy to see him coming our way! I highly recommend attending.

Ditto.  Disarm and retention techniques that were introduced are some good stuff.

Summary:
• Lecture / Discussion - William presents an incredible amount of content in Unthinkable covering the full spectrum of what you may expect in a course designed to help you build a Defensive Mindset; everything from being targeted and selected as a victim to the criminals themselves is hit in this one. While the amount and depth of the content could easily be overwhelming, William's approach to the material and his layout of the blocks make this one very manageable to digest.

• Practical / Hands On - Simple, straight forward with easily understandable objectives. While the main focus of the practical block in Unthinkable was the Disarming and Retention of handguns, William also hit on some key points to think about with ready positions, presentation from the holster and verbal commands...all valuable!

• Instruction - William's knowledge of the subject at hand is evident from the start and he easily articulates and explains the material to the students in a way that not only gets the point across, but also encourages deeper thinking. When it came to the practical blocks, he performed the techniques to standard in an easy to follow format that again, helped the students learn. He is an approachable instructor, easy to listen, will gladly elaborate when asked too, and lastly, a guy that truly wants to help others!

• Unthinkable hit the nail on the head and delivered more than I hoped in the form of helping to build a Defensive Mindset. Simple, straight forward concepts and techniques built for anyone looking to step up their game mentally...no need to be a "gun guy or gal" to walk away with a ton of beneficial information that will help to keep you safer!

I was only there for Lansky's.  :)

Triune brains, meaningless transitions, implacable psychopaths... so much to digest!

I've been watching the videos while on the Treadmill of Infinite Boredom.  Great refresher already.   And Dr. Aprill is interviewed by none other than Bullit and JTHapkido's hero!!!!!  Woohoo!

Have a Target Focused Thanksgiving ya'all! :)
