PolyCase Ammunition: Something New Under the Sun
« on: October 31, 2015, 09:15:54 AM »
NRA's American Rifleman featured an article on this product:

http://www.polycaseammo.com/home

Implication is that it's going to render hollow-points obsolete.

As a firm advocate of bullet velocity-over-mass, I'm gonna check it out whenever it ever becomes commercially available.

Maybe even shoot a punkin or a half-gallon of ballistic gel to see wot's wot.

I read that article, looks interesting. I think it would be really cool if they could get the synthetic shell casings figured out. Making reliable ammo cheaper would be a real milestone.

Ruger is launching its own line of defensive ammo loaded with it.

Polymer case -- reloadable?

Copper bullets, in part or whole?  Where the market is going?

Polymer case -- reloadable?
My thought as well. This may be good ammo, but with the price of ammo these days I am saving up to make the jump into reloading so I can afford to continue shooting. If this isn't reloadable then I wouldn't be purchasing it.

Cabelas is selling the Polycase ARX (.45 Auto) for $22.99/box (20rnd) which seems to be fairly competitive.

My understanding is the bullets are currently available in reloadable brass cases.  The reason they are working towards polymer, one use cases, is for the military.  That way they won't leave cases that enemies can reload and use against us.

Come to think of it.............

Shotgun shells are already a form of PolyCase.

And trapshooters reload 'em by the mega-pallet.

Also, FWIW, this quote of abbafandr's:

I get what you're saying but if it was cheap enough, then it accomplishes the same end, right?
At very least could be like CCI Blazer aluminum or steel cased ammo- another cost effective alternative.

I'm not holding my breath for that nor expecting brass to go away anytime soon though.

You have a good point in that if it is cheaper to buy this than the components to reload then this ammo becomes more viable, although I will still have the reloading so that I can be more self sufficient as well.
