I was going to post this as well.  The next president will also get to select one, maybe two justices.

Supreme Court justices are nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate.  The 114th Congress (2015 - 17) has Republicans (54 seats) and Democrat (44 seats) and 2 independents (who caucus with the Democrats).  A simple majority vote is required to confirm or to reject a nominee.   What could throw this to the other side (anti 2A) could be determined by how many  RINOs there are.

The President recess appointed two already. I am sure he is licking his chops to do it again.

NOT GOOD!

Good point, Mntnman.  To remain in effect, a recess appointment must be approved by the Senate by the end of the next session of Congress, or the position becomes vacant again.  Even if not approved and vacated, there is enough time for a recess appointee to do a lot of damage  to the 2A.

I wouldn't bet on it.  Not with Mc Connell and Ryan involved.

This is potentially devastating; it's like America is at war for our survival and we suddenly discover that an entire division of our best soldiers has been wiped out, and an enemy division is moving toward the strategically essential position it had occupied.  Scalia was not just a consistent vote for maintaining the integrity of the Constitution, he was also effective in questioning and debating while cases were being considered, always making the case for interpreting the Constitution based on what its words and authors say it means instead of what those on the Court would like it to mean.  There were not very many of the 9 on the Court who could be counted on to uphold the Law, and now there is one less, and there is one less voice of reason in their debates.

For anyone who might not know, it was Scalia who wrote the majority opinion in the Heller case.  I thought the wording could have been better and made the illegality of most current gun control laws more clear, but if an Obama appointee had been on the Court instead of Scalia, the majority opinion would have been written by Ruth Ginsburg, who argued that the 2nd Amendment is a collective right instead of an individual right.  And if Obama is able to replace Scalia with another traitor, Heller could be overturned.

McConnell says he'll stop Obama from placing another traitor on the Court, by delaying a Senate vote on the matter until after the election.  I hope he keeps his word.  Every Democrat and the big lie machines called the liberal press will be fighting him on this, and their methods will be as ruthless as any act of war has ever been.  So as another member mentioned, it will be RINOs like McCain who determine the fate of the Republic, since if they do their duty in stopping Obama from further corrupting the Court, McConnell will be successful, but if they cave in like they have a habit of doing, McConnell will be unlikely to have the power to keep his promise.  The possibility that Obama might have a chance to appoint another Supreme Court justice was an issue in the last election, and is one of the reasons Republicans were given control of the Senate.  But RINOs don't seem to care about things like that, preferring to grovel before their liberal masters.

If it was the other way around, there is absolutely no doubt that Harry Reid and his crew of traitors would stop a patriot president from making another appointment.  There are no DINOs in the Senate: every Democrat can be counted on to stand with his party on important issues like this.  And this is why keeping the Republicans from nominating RINOs is so important: things like this come up, and we need patriots who will sand and fight to preserve the Republic.

All patriots need to be contacting our senators and sending them this message: Obama must not be allowed to further corrupt the Supreme Court by placing another liberal justice on it.  We need to make sure that our voice is louder then the voice of the liberal press that will be demanding that they cave in.  And we need to be educating the notorious low information voters about the importance of the Constitution and the difference between a liberal and a conservative Supreme Court justice: the conservative bases his opinion on what the authors meant when they wrote it (called original intent); the liberal bases his on what he would like it to mean.  The liberal, in other words, will do nothing but corrupt the law, because the essence of words is what their author meant by them, and if that essence is taken away from the written law then there is no law, and America will become a de facto democracy, with no Constitution to keep the majority from imposing mob rule.

This kind of thing shows that those calling for the impeachment of Obama should have been listened to.  And it isn't too late to start.  As the saying goes, the best defense is a good offense.

One thing on interest I discovered when doing some reading on the Court last night: throughout the history of the court most justices have been protestant.  Now though there is not one protestant on the Court; every member is either Catholic or Jewish (and that included Scalia).  I'm not saying here that one religion is better or worse than another, just pointing out a subtle change that most of us are unaware of.
The liberal cult seeks destruction of the American Republic like water seeks low ground.

I know this is literally taken straight from a House of Cards storyline, but here's how I see it going...

(1) Cruz filibusters any Obama nominees as he has promised, taking some heat off of Mitch and any Senators in close elections this fall.

(2) Cruz continues to get beat by Trump (we'll see how the SC primary goes but it's looking that way.)

(3) Cruz drops out and endorses Trump; in return...

(4) Trump nominates Cruz for SCOTUS

(5) "It's morning in America again."

This is like one of the worst case scenarios come true...

However...

McConnell had started backpedaling in regards to blocking the nominee, however now it seems he is digging in his heels. McConnell said that the Senate will withhold its consent to Obama's nominee.
