Info to Consider
« on: August 12, 2017, 07:16:02 AM »
The following information came to me in an email.   No verification is offered for the accuracy of the data.   However, it could readily be checked out by anyone who cares to do so.   And certainly, it's as valid as any of the Leftist's statistics that they are so fond of spouting.   And twistily mis-interpreting.

Here 'tis:
===================================

There are 30,000 gun related deaths per year by firearms, and this number is not disputed.   U.S. population 324,059,091 as of Wednesday, June 22, 2016.

Do the math:
0.0000925 of the population dies from gun related actions each year.  Statistically speaking, this is insignificant!  What is never told, however, is a breakdown of those 30,000 deaths, to put them in perspective as compared to other causes of death:

• 65%  of those deaths are by suicide which would never be prevented by gun laws.
• 15%  are by law enforcement in the line of duty and justified.
• 17%  are through criminal activity, gang and drug related or mentally ill persons – gun violence.
• 3%  are accidental discharge deaths.

So technically, "gun violence" is not 30,000 annually, but drops to 5,100.  Still too many?  Well, first, how are those deaths spanned across the nation?

• 480 homicides (9.4%)  were in Chicago
• 344 homicides (6.7%)  were in Baltimore
• 333 homicides (6.5%)  were in Detroit.
• 119 homicides (2.3%)  were in Washington D.C. (a 54% increase over prior years)

So basically, 25% of all gun crime happens in just 4 cities.  All 4 of those cities have strict gun laws, so it is not the lack of law that is the root cause.

This basically leaves 3,825 for the entire rest of the nation, or about 75 deaths per state.  That is an average because some States have much higher rates than others.  For example, California had 1,169  and Alabama had 1.

Now, who has the strictest gun laws by far?  California, of course, but understand, it is not guns causing this. It is a crime rate spawned by the number of criminal persons residing in those cities and states. So if all cities and states are not created equally, then there must be something other than the tool causing the gun deaths.

Are 5,100 deaths per year horrific? How about in comparison to other deaths? All death is sad and especially so when it is in the commission of a crime but that is the nature of crime. Robbery, death, rape, assault all is done by criminals and thinking that criminals will obey laws is ludicrous. That's why they are criminals.

But what about other deaths each year?

• 40,000+ die from a drug overdose–THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THAT!
• 36,000 people die per year from the flu, far exceeding the criminal gun deaths.
• 34,000 people die per year in traffic fatalities(exceeding gun deaths even if you include suicide)

Now it gets really, really good:

• 200,000+ people die each year (and growing) from preventable medical errors. You are safer in Chicago than when you are in a hospital!

• 710,000 people die per year from heart disease. It’s time to stop the double cheeseburgers! So what is the point?  If Obama and the anti-gun movement focused their attention on heart disease, even a 10% decrease in cardiac deaths would save twice the number of lives annually of all gun-related deaths (including suicide, law enforcement, etc.).   A 10% reduction in medical errors would be 66% of the total gun deaths or 4 times the number of criminal homicides......Simple, easily preventable 10% reductions!

So you have to ask yourself, in the grand scheme of things, why the focus on guns? It's pretty simple:  Taking away guns gives control to governments.

The founders of this nation knew that regardless of the form of government, those in power may become corrupt and seek to rule as the British did by trying to disarming the populace of the colonies. It is not difficult to understand that a disarmed populace is a controlled populace.

Thus, the second amendment was proudly and boldly included in the US. Constitution It must be preserved at all cos
ts.

So the next time someone tries to tell you that gun control is about saving lives, look at these facts and remember these words from Noah Webster: "Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed, as they are in almost every kingdom in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword, because the whole body of the people are armed and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretense, raised in the United States. A military force at the command of Congress can execute no laws, but such as the people perceive to be just and constitutional; for they will possess the power."

Remember, when it comes to "gun control", the frightening word is “control", not “gun"!

The government fears a armed society. It is harder to control a free and armed society so they have waged a campaign to take away the people's arms.

I haven't verified it, but have heard that Nixon started promoting gun control because he feared blacks being armed in the 60's - you know when there was a fight for freedom going on.

The problem is pretty simple, and it's human nature for the most part.  Variables like automobile use, going to the hospital, having a beer, (or delicious single malt whisky) carry with them inherent dangers and risks, but using these amenities or consuming these goods is broadly socially accepted.  With broad acceptance comes a larger degree of tolerance for deaths occurring within these systems or by use or consumption of these goods.  With firearms, there is near zero tolerance for injury or death related to their use because of a greatly reduced utilization of these tools for either recreation, sport, or self-defense.

If we were really out to reduce societal violence and/or preventable deaths, alcohol would still be prohibited.  Between auto accidents, domestic abuse, alcoholism, child abuse and the multitude of health problems it's consumption causes, it'd be a no brainer to ban it....but alas....many people like it and a great number of deaths related to it's abuse are tolerated.
That's the entire issue.

the 344 number is the 2015 murdered number in Baltimore out of the 344 only 301 were from shootings that killed not shots fired that missed or wounded the rest were from:
    Asphyxiation: 4
    Blunt Force: 7

time to stop blaming the Gun and blame the dirt bags , criminals and or the crazy mofo's that do the vast majority of the shootings. they do not follow any letter of law. the honest hard working people that own guns are not the ones that are shooting up our citys ....
I will allow myself one personal observation. If you want to disarm yourself, that is your choice. The following quote is a favorite of mine and something to keep in mind when you make that choice.

“Sheep don’t tell wolves what’s for dinner.”

To those who dance on the graves of the dead and demand an end to my right to be armed I always like to say this:  If you support gun control and have not given up all nonessential driving, among other dangerous activities, you are a hypocrite and a liar.  This should be obvious to any thinking person but since apparently it is not, let me explain the hypocrisy in some detail:

Assuming for the sake of argument the big whopping lie that government disarming its people reduces the people’s risk of untimely death, even the falsely claimed risks of living in a nation where guns are legal are a great deal smaller than risks that are commonly taken by citizens doing common things that are not rights, such as travel by car for example.  If saving lives really was your purpose in supporting gun control, you would have given up all nonessential driving, years ago.  On your own.  You would not have to be told to do it.

You wouldn’t fly either; there are many things you wouldn’t do.  You would avoid all things that are as or more dangerous than living in an armed America.  These things that are within your grasp will without any doubt attain a much greater benefit in reduced risk than even you claim you could get from gun control.  Most travel is not essential to sustain life and you know it.  It might be important to living the lifestyle you want to live, but it is not essential.  It's voluntary.  You can live without it.  And you choose not to.  Every day, you choose to do things that are known to cause a much higher death toll than you claim is caused by American citizens being armed.

The American people, including those who support gun control, have made it clear that they are willing to live with greater risk even than anti-gun bigots falsely claim the right to be armed causes them, in order to do things that are not a right, even though any of them have the power to avoid the risk, on their own, with no new law being passed and without forcing anything on anyone else.

But they don’t.  They willingly and knowingly engage in behavior that is known to kill more people even than the most deceitful anti-gun bigots falsely claim are killed because Americans have the legal right to be armed.  This shows clearly that saving lives is not their purpose and never has been.  Living the way they want to live makes the risk acceptable to them, but those they want to disarm living the way they want to live does not make a much smaller risk acceptable to them.

This is hypocrisy, as pure as it gets.  And when the hypocrisy is stripped away from their propaganda, and the lies are exposed, there is nothing left but intolerance and hate, programmed into fools by those who want power concentrated into the hands of government.  And people being programmed with that sort of thing is why the Constitution was written in the first place.
The liberal cult seeks destruction of the American Republic like water seeks low ground.

I would replace "accidental discharge" with "negligent" discharge or "reckless discharge" since they're a result of not following gun safety rules.
