True on the unattended firearm in vehicle law. I dislike meddlesome socialism as much as the next guy. But in practice even if you permanently stored a gun in the glove box or behind the pickup seat (which is unwise perhaps, but that’s another thread) and the car is your daily driver, then it’s never “unattended” for more than 24 hours. I’d be curious to know if that law is ever enforced.
Regarding the original post and travel to Chicano Illinois, I wouldn’t go anywhere the city/state unless perhaps I were truly passing through on the interstate. You either gotta decide to go there unarmed, or don’t go at all. Or perhaps try and get a non-resident CHP if they offer such a thing, but my friends who live in IL say the process is arduous and expensive even for in-state residents.
Ever seen “locked up abroad” on Nat Geo channel, featuring all the idiot Americans who travel overseas, commit crimes, then are shocked to learn that the American constitution didn’t follow them to Ecuador? (And somehow that becomes the American Conulate’s “fault” in the eyes of the idiot tourist and his family.) You better have the same mindset going to Illinois. Perhaps some nice things to do / see there but you are leaving the United States of America so don’t come cryin’ when things go wrong.
