Songs About Guns
« on: February 21, 2018, 02:11:50 PM »
Hey everyone.  I was just listening to "Grandaddy's Gun" by Aaron Lewis and it made me realize that there are a lot of great songs out there about guns.  What are some of your favorites?

Not a gun song as such but I love Lester & Flatt's Salty Dog Blues:
I was down in the wildwood sittin on a log
Finger on the trigger and eye on a hog
Honey let me be your salty dog
Let me be your salty dog
Or I wont be your man at all
Honey let me be your salty dog
I pulled the trigger and the gun said "go"
The shot fell over in Mexico
Honey let me be your salty dog

The caption says this is about Obama but it's really about gun control.  I think the guy did a good job on it.

Marty Robbins is my favorite singer.  I did a web search on Big Iron. Supposedly he based the song on gun that had the base of a  revolver but the cut down barrel from a marlin rifle which he saw in a gunshop in of all places Hollywood. That was decades ago of course.

Today, we need a nation of Minutemen, citizens who are not only prepared to take arms, but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as the basic purpose of their daily life and who are willing to consciously work and sacrifice for that freedom.   J. F. K.

I think this has already been done....look to Hank Jr.  "Country Boy can survive".  Talk about plagiarism or close.  And he does it better.

It's classic country music, I am not sure plagiarism can be called, lol. I listened to 2 of his albums today. It all sounds the same but it isn't bad. Not really my genre but I don't hate it.
