A jury found a Washington County man not guilty in a June shooting on his family's acreage south of Fort Calhoun after a three-day trial in Washington County District Court.

James Borsh III, 21, broke down in tears as the verdict was read Wednesday. He hugged his family as he left the courtroom.

Borsh was accused of shooting two teenagers with a shotgun June 25 during an alleged underage drinking party at 3341 County Road P38. He was charged with use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, a Class IC felony; first-degree assault, a Class II felony; and second-degree assault, a Class IIA felony.

However, Borsh maintained that it was self defense as he was defending his father, James Borsh Jr., who was allegedly attacked by the teens and a third assailant.

The jury agreed. They deliberated for about 30 minutes before reaching their verdict.
