  this looks pretty legit to me, altho. I could just guess that omaha and lincoln would have shootings, and around where I live there were none

   this also includes police shootings and accidents,

Interesting, wish it had a filter where the accidental shootings could be filtered out.  As it is you can filter to just see the accidental ones.  I do think that there definition of accidental may need work as the incident where the Omaha PD shot the COPS TV show reporter is listed as accidental.

The COPS incident was accidental in that the cops were shooting at the robber. The sound man was hit because he got hung up with his equipment and couldn't duck soon enough.

Note that there is no filter for self defense shootings by private citizens. It has the effect of conflating self defense with drive by gang shootings and domestic violence. Given that the source is The Trace, I'm sure that's deliberate.

No such things as accident shootings, they're negligent shootings, gun safety rules were violated.
