Oregon City Police

Good evening,

We understand some of our followers are upset with Benchmade knives because of a recent post we put out. The post did not give everyone the full story on why the guns were required to be destroyed.

We receive guns that are turned in from community members that they no longer want the guns and want them destroyed. We also have guns that are evidence and when a case is adjudicated the guns are ordered by the court to be destroyed.

These guns were required to be destroyed. We reached out to Benchmade to do us a favor at our request. Benchmade is a strong supporter of law enforcement and the Oregon City community. We were present when the guns were cut and we took them for final destruction.

We apologize for not informing everyone on the initial post. Benchmade is an excellent company and we urge everyone that had said they no longer support Benchmade to reconsider once they have all the information. Again, we apologize for not informing everyone with our recent post.

Respectfully,

Chief Jim Band and Mayor Dan Holladay
I will allow myself one personal observation. If you want to disarm yourself, that is your choice. The following quote is a favorite of mine and something to keep in mind when you make that choice.

That doesn't explain why Benchmade did it for them.  Surely the PD has access to a grinder to do it themselves.  Also, that first link has evidence showing that Benchmade apparently donates a lot to Democrats.

For me, I've never even heard of Benchmade before today, but even with the explanation I don't see myself buying one anytime soon.

My guess is that it is easier to have BenchMade do it because they have all the equipment already and the skills to do it without cutting off their own appendages. Not that it is hard to do.

As far as the donation records, there is no info there regarding the source or any filters so we are led to assume that this is the sum of the records of their donations. I don't feel like the donation information provided enough context to the information to make it viable.

You can look up the candidates they donated to, they are mostly anti-gun.

Kurt Schrader: doesn’t seem so bad https://votesmart.org/candidate/key-votes/10813/kurt-schrader/37/guns#.XG8lh6RMGaM but I swear I found information last night he voted for a few gun control bills.

Martin Heinrich: voted for things like magazine bans, bumpstock bans, http://www.ontheissues.org/domestic/Martin_Heinrich_Gun_Control.htm

And the owner of Benchmade Les de Asis, has personally donated to Darlene Hooley, who is very anti gun.

Point is, benchmade might have been better served politely declining, instead of allowing this ****show to go on, and remind me again what a chopsaw costs?  No matter how you look at it...........bad optics for a business that sells high end knives to sportsman/gun owners.  Biting the hand that feeds.

The political donations are disturbing.  I have a Benchmade folder and it’s extremely well made, but if I’m ever in the mood for a high-end knife again I’ll get a German made Böker.
