What gun store pays the best prices for guns
« on: June 28, 2019, 09:54:43 PM »
I’m thinking of making room in the safe.  Would prefer to deal at a store than at my house/a parking lot etc., in spite of not getting top dollar.

Thanks in advance!

IIRC Cabelas was paying about 60% of blue book. That could vary on condition of the gun and how long they think they  may have to sit on it.  I'd heard a rumor Scheels paid a little better.

I've had good luck on this forum and got to meet some great people. Plus you'll know the firearm is going to someone who will appreciate it. It's not as fast as taking them to a store usually. Depending on what they are.

Another option you may want to explore is seeing if any of the gun stores around you do consignment and what they charge.  I hve done this in the past and had good luck.  With consignment you will normally receive more money in the end, it just takes longer.  Keep in mind that if the gun doesn't sell, you will normally have to fill out the ATF paperwork to get the gun back as it is considered a transfer.

If you do decide to sell to a private party there are a couple of options available to make it safer.

1 - State in the ad that the buyer must have a valid pistol purchase permit or concealed carry permit.  While it is only required by law for handgun transfers, it is a good indicator that the individual passed a back ground check within the last five years.

2 - State in the ad that the transfer will take place at a specified gun store.  If you talk to them, most of the non-chain gun stores are willing to do transfers for a small fee.

you could try listing them here first.  give NFOA'ers the first crack at them.

if its an AR-style gun, i would hold on to it.  the market is sooo saturated.
