WOW! Just WOW!
« on: August 05, 2019, 01:35:48 PM »
Two major massacres on US soil in one weekend
+
Calls for stricter Control Laws across the nation by lawmakers ready to circumvent due process
+
Antigunners amassing across our state, in our towns
+
The NRA in internal turmoil, which the gun-grabbers have/ will exploit.
=
Not one F#@& given by the members of the NFOA?

I half expected this forum to be lit up, calls to Rise Up against the Oppressors, Maintain our Freedoms at All Cost!
(or at the least some strongly worded, well crafted letters to our lawmakers, maybe some thought out letters to the editor? for the sake of all that is good and Holy- We must do something!)

God I miss the Nebraska Firearms Owners Association of old.

Lord, I pray the toil and sacrifices of those that came before not have been in vain.

I warned y’all months ago that the forum was dwindling away.  I said it’s a fine back-up comms channel - and perhaps a more secure hang out for NFOA leadership - but otherwise, forums are kind of a generation X thing.  I mentioned YouTube and Facebook videos and Instagram and a couple people freaked out about de-platforming and suggested we retreat to cower in the dark corners of the web.  ::)

The NFOA needs to take some lessons in Meme Warfare from organizations like Turning Point USA who are demolishing their Generation Z leftist enemies.

In fact I thought I mentioned that the NFOA should partner with some zealous young Republicans or Turning Point members from UNL, to add some fresh blood and reinvigorate the organization.

I don't post much but I check the forum daily.
The way I see it is we've let the other side set the topic. They don't like guns, so people going on a murdering rampage is about the tool used and not the tool user.
Neil Tyson spoke truth and was shamed for it. (He made reference to deaths by other factors in a 48 hr period)
Drunk drivers scare me more than crazies with guns and they get a slap on the wrist, if that, when caught!
Guns are not the problem, people are.
We need to direct the focus to the real problem.

Well, I haven't been much for posting or even monitoring these forums...but things change.  I saw your tweet this morning about GOA and then I came to your website to see what us "Nebraskan's" are saying about matters.  I can tell you I live in Lincoln and am concerned about potential future action by our beloved city council to enact something in the "safe storage" realm.  It would be nice to have members get more organized and possibly even meeting once in a while so we can keep the left leaning new mayor and city council accountable and let them know they cannot just ram anything down our throats without some pushback and a fight.  Thoughts?

PS - I'm now on the fifth try to type in the verification letters.  Is there a better way?

Great discussion all around.

A couple ideas from it all...

There are some great and active Facebook Groups that exist. Not thinking of replacing the forum, because the structure and ability to organize posts and topics serve an important purpose.  But the FB group format would reach the GenX and active Boomer generation with more(?) regularity than the forum as people can subscribe, get notifications of group activity etc - that the forum doesn't do. You have to come here yourself, we can direct you to here from FB.  So maybe a Nebraska Firearm Owners Group on FB as a part of the communication/outreach solution?

Getting members together. I will be honest, this year has been a very tough year for me volunteer bandwidth-wise.  Lots going on in work and personal life. I haven't even made it to one of the Gretna breakfasts.  And to only a few community recruiting events, and while for some of the events it was me only, it was great to see the few members who showed up to support our outreach efforts and I truly appreciate them doing so. We have a schedule of Gun Shows for the year and will be hitting those hard, but I think we need a NFOA Regional Representative. Basically someone who has the time to schedule casual get-togethers like the breaksfasts or meet and greets at local ranges not only in our most populated member locations but across the state.  Thinking Lincoln, Grand Island, Hastings and so forth.  Connecting is important. These Regional Reps would be supported by the board with talking points and information for each event, not to lead the conversation, but be prepared to help gather member inputs, positions and ideas and then feed that up to the board.

I agree with Waltherfan, we can't let the other side set the topic.  I am going to be on the radio this Saturday (during my lunch break cause I am working) to add our side to the conversation. on 1290 KOIL on the Matthew's Show "The Danger Zone" That being said, calling into radio shows when the topic is firearms is one easy and quick way to present the truth.  "Drunk drivers scare me more than crazies with guns and they get a slap on the wrist, if that, when caught!" Inspirational statement there, check out our FB post for today.

ILoveCats- great suggestion "The NFOA needs to take some lessons in Meme Warfare from organizations like Turning Point USA" The Communications Committee team is now collecting examples to inspire us to create our own.  Attention spans are short and we need to grab people's attention and Memes work. So we're going to focus on that as well.

And to NEBull "Strongly worded, well crafted letters to our lawmakers, maybe some thought out letters to the editor? for the sake of all that is good and Holy- We must do something!"  Spot on and I will take our lack of response this week on my shoulders. So I posted about Bacon's town hall here and on FB and when other elected officials are having town halls, I hope to find out about them and do the same.  We either show up or should shut up. I am trying to get tonight off of work to attend Bacon's town hall, even offering $50 to my coworkers to take my shift, but not sure if I can go.  So hopefully others will.

Forums in general (no matter the group) are sort of the dinosaurs now of Social Media.  Sad, but true.

Trish,

Follow Charlie Kirk’s organization Turning Point USA on Facebook or some other social media. They are fantastic, and ruthless.  Recall that this is the conservative organization that was recruiting on UNL’s campus a couple years ago and two associate professors (including Amanda Gailey) freaked out, used profanity, etc.  Basic liberal anti-speech tantrum.

Both of my kids attended the Turning Point youth summit in DC this summer and it was phenomenal.  President Trump spoke, along with Don Trump Jr (both my kids got selfies with him and he autographed their MAGA hats!), Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Sebastian Gorka and everyone else listed here. https://www.tpusa.com/tsas/

We need to look to TPUSA’s meme warfare guru listed in that lineup, Benny Johnson ( @bennyjohnson on Twitter) for inspiration.  In his speech he said correctly that the left makes awful memes compared to the right.  The reason for this is because the left are a bunch of angry, ugly, bitter nags. Collectivism attracts that sort of mentality.  People who can’t cope with life and look to socialism to solve their problems.  The winning solution is to go on the offensive and mock them ruthlessly and incessantly.

We need to follow that lead and infuse a lot of 20- and 30-something membership and talent.

This is an inherently solid red state with a few cat-hoarding-vegan-yoga-instructor types of people who run for city council or unicameral because they’ve got nothing better to do.  And they’re busy bodies.  Then, because conservatives have jobs and families and take time to go to church and volunteer, we don’t have time to take them on. On top of that we tend to be apathetic because we say they’re just the weirdo minority and — we tell ourselves —  surely they can’t do much harm.

We need to go on the offensive both mocking them and calling out their real intentions.  And we need to go on the offensive with initiatives of our own.

I’m still not sure why we can’t try for state preemption through a ballot initiative.

On your radio appearance you should mention that more laws wouldn't be needed if they enforced the ones on the books. A big example, Jarita Johnson bought the pistol used to kill Officer Orozco. It was a straw purchase and she got one year probation!

Hey, I'm pretty good at making memes, if you are referring to the picture with caption types... Tell me what you want to convey and I will create.

Also, as far as moving this forum off of message boards and moving to social media, I want to remind everyone about how facebook and twitter will ban, censor or otherwise control those who speak from a conservative perspective. It would be good as an outreach tool, but I worry about doing away completely with the message boards where we essentially control it.

There are conservative friendly platforms like Snippy, I hear advertised on Buck Sexton's show, check him out if you haven't already heard him. I'm in the same age range as Mr. Sexton but I am thankfully also of sound mind and a conservative.

I do agree that leftwingers do seem to have way too much time on their hands when it comes to controlling the lives of others, being the fascists they are, but we do need to stay awake and be on the offense otherwise we will wake up with no rights in a socialist America. Sadly we are getting closer to that everyday.

if you can make memes, let see them!  i find lots of funny ones online, but hardly any are Nebraska themed unless it involves Busch Light, Runza or Ranch dressing.

We need to keep our eyes peeled for Jordan Peterson's "thinkspot" social media channel and maybe someone should sign up for the beta and secure the "NFOA" moniker there.  I see this being the new home of censorship free social media once launched.

We should not shy away from mainstream social media channels and need to go on the full offensive there but keep backup comms channels active just in case of banning due to "offensive" content as determined by the collectivists.

YES!!!  That's exactly what I'm talking about.   Keep throwing the truth in their faces!!!

It is not uncharitable to mock leftism / collectivism.  It is truly evil and there is no such thing as moderate ground or rational discourse with them.  They want state / social control over your lives and liberties.  It is the true opposite of capitalism, meritocracy and objectivism; we have no common ground with them.

This is what Trump has shown us and this is why the left HATES him.  They scream about racism or bigotry but they know there is no racism or bigotry.  They are doing that only because they despise how he has made a mockery of their tie-dyed, flower power, utopian fantasies.  All they can do is have temper tantrums.  They came SO close to the last Baby Boomer President getting a liberal SCOTUS majority -- and then Daddy Trump trolled his way to the Oval Office while milquetoast "moderate Republicans" like Romney and McCain watched aghast from the sidelines.  They said, "you can't say the truth that boldly and become President" but Daddy proved the RINOs wrong.  The more he speaks the truth, like Baltimore being a democrat-run cesspool, the more he wins.

We've got to follow Daddy's lead and ruthlessly attack leftism.

Last night I did recruiting for a middle school trap team and signed up 50 new shooters, including a lot of girls.  One mother said she wants her daughter to be familiar and comfortable with firearms, because she (the mother) spends a lot of time traveling and wishes she had a gun for safety but knows nothing about them, and doesn't want her daughter growing up the same way.

The passion is out there among Generation Z and Millennials.  That's where we need to take the fight!

One reason she didn't go away was she has several kids and no family to take them, not making any excuses but it was a factor.

Forums are fine as long as politicians or their staff monitor them. I think it's better to contact our government representatives via e-mail or phone - whatever method you find comfortable. I have already written to the U.S. Senators and Representatives along with the POTUS and my Nebraska representative. I don't know if it'll do any good since politicians are going with emotion rather than logic and reality and follow the Constitution. I expect that we'll get more "do something" laws that don't do anything to address the real problem. Anyway, I tried to be brief in my e-mail but I always leave something out when being brief. Like the fact that we already have laws to deal with mental illness. The bottom line is that I ask: if penalties against murder and assault won't stop criminals and murderers what makes them think that more laws will make a difference?

We have reached a tipping point, the three letter organizations have failed us (NRA, GOA, FPC) they continue to waste money suing the government in hopes that the government will decide that what the government did was unconstitutional.

What we need now is action, the Three letter organizations should be organizing country wide marches on assembly buildings, capitals and D.C. state level organizations should be doing the same.

400,000 people voted to name a stupid hi-point the Yeet Cannon.

The anti-gunners are successful because they use tactics that work, it’s time gun owners start doing the same thing.

Unfortunately,  the anti-gunners are making progress because the majority of voters don't think for themselves. For example, a lot of people think GFZ's are a great idea but it doesn't seem to occur to them that just putting up a sign or declaring a GFZ doesn't stop criminals and mentally ill people from doing illegal and deadly things and that it's just harassment of decent, law abiding gun owners that could've stopped an active shooter. And then there's the cost and inconvenience of getting into an area that has  security checks is another factor. Just one example of how the sheep operate. We have a lot of work educating all those uninformed people. As a sidebar, Senator Collins (R?-ME) believes that buying guns through the internet is a loophole because background checks aren't done. Last time I checked such transactions have to be done through FFL's which means a background check is done. Not to mention that even though background checks are done when guns are purchased at an FFL there are people that seem unaware that they are being done. And a lot of people don't consider that 99.99% of criminals don't get their guns from an FFL. Need I say more? Just some things that we're up against. I do my best to educate people but 99.99% of the people that I socialize with are gun owners. And don't get me started on "red flag" laws.
