I concur with the majority of these points...and I'm a NRA life member.  :-\
Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

I waiver every year that the membership dues come due. I get tired of them sending me a letter or more every month. Shouldn't they use that money on fighting for the 2nd amendment instead of postage?
Just one peev with them.

The fun fact about all those letters from the NRA, they did not come from the NRA.  The NRA contracts out their fund raising, the contractor has total control gets a few cents for every letter send and a percentage of the total donations.  Sounds like a pretty lousy deal to me especially for the members.

It's really pretty easy to opt out of the mailings if they irritate you.

Q: How can I reduce the amount of mail I receive from the NRA?
A: Simply email us at membership@nrahq.org or dial 800-NRA-3888 and request to be placed on the "Do Not Promote" list. This will significantly reduce the amount of mail you receive without affecting important mailings, magazine service, or your membership renewal.

Today, we need a nation of Minutemen, citizens who are not only prepared to take arms, but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as the basic purpose of their daily life and who are willing to consciously work and sacrifice for that freedom.   J. F. K.

Here's a story that could be true:

NRA Member Guy goes on plane trip across Pacific Ocean.

Engine trouble.   Plane goes down in drink.

Guy floats for days in rubber raft.   Grows long beard.   Gets sunburned......

Finally, finally>>>>An Island!!!   Tiny, but real, firm land.

Guy staggers up onto beach.   Passes out.

Wakes up later, staring into a bottle.  Bottle has note.

Note says, "Hello, Dear NRA Member........Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer, Obama, and the Brady Bunch Want Your Guns.   Please make a contribution:  $25....$50....$75....$100!!!   We'll send you another NRA pocket knife and an NRA hat."

Well, despite all this and the other stuff mentioned above, the NRA is still the Only 800 Pound Gorilla Friend that we've got.

Come to my house, I'll give you a Knife AND a Hat.

Got Lots of 'Em.

SFG Correct the NRA is the 800 pound gorilla, and they need support.  But like they say they can not do it alone.  As they have been pulled further into the international/UN fight that means the less time and money there is to fight locally, and they need other organizations to step up and pick up the banner.  We are all in the fight together.

Very well put  SFG.  I'm also a life member but I agree about  "800 lb"
Also glad to know the mechanics of the fund raising.
