On this holiday weekend, Let us not forget the true reason for THIS season. July 4th marks the day representatives of the citizens of a group of 13 colonies, in a new world, announced to the British Crown, that they would not allow themselves become enslaved by a government in which their subjects were taxed without proper representation in the governing body, subjecting them to laws which did not allow for 'certain unalienable Rights; including Life, Liberty, and The Pursuit of Happiness!'. These Patriots, already entrenched in a war against an overwhelming army, pressed on to drive out Monarchy rule and set forth to build a government, unlike any other yet on Earth, a government in which the citizens govern themselves through self elected representatives. So, on this day of Friends and Family, good Eats, Cold Brews, and Fireworks, let's not forget to take a little time to think about, even discuss with those around us, that which brought us the very freedoms we enjoy today: The original Patriots and something bigger than an one single person: the almighty AMERICAN SPIRIT!
