Anybody own a Glock 29?
« on: January 22, 2011, 04:50:59 PM »
Hi all,

I'm looking at purchasing a Glock model 29 (sub 10mm) for CCW and was wondering if anyone here had any experience with them.  I know there are several members here who carry a G30 which is the same size, so I'd like to hear from you too.  I currently carry a G27 and shoot it often, no problems with the recoil of that and I have big hands so the fatter grip wouldn't bother me I don't think, although I've never handled one.  So what say you NFOA members?  Any of you carry a 10mm?

TIA

It is a handful!!! I carry the G30 which I think is the softest shooting Glock period. The little experience I've had with 10mm loads was that they are brutal with recoil.

Unbearable? No............. Gonna practice with it a little here and there and carry.... Probably fine.

Wanting to shoot a lot? Pain and empty wallet comes to mind!

Thanks for the input Chris,

Some people have said that the .40 is way too snappy to be comfortable with too, but it doesn't bother me in the least.  I'd really like to shoot a 20 or 29 to see for myself.

Thats my plan, shoot it until I'm comfortable with it and then carry it and shoot it occasionally.  How is the size of your g30 for carry?

Are you in Omaha or Lincoln? I might know someone in Omaha looking to sell a G29...... He is in LaVista. If he still has it, I'm sure he would meet you at the Bullet Hole to shoot it before you buy it.

I carried the G27 for years. It is a handful, but controllable, and I really like that gun. Shooting a couple hundred full power factory loads through it though is not the most pleasant.

Size wise, I carry the G30sf.... It is a little fatter than the G27, but still manageable.

Excellent! Enjoy!!!!

And let me know if you need anything. If you are going to carry this gun I would highly recommend going back to the 5.5# connector in the gun..... If it is just a range piece, keep the 4.5# in it.

Curious to hear your thoughts on the G29.  I have a G20.  I don't consider myself particularly sensitive to recoil, but I'm shooting some fairly hot loads and I wouldn't want to burn through several hundred of them in a range session.  There's definitely a fatigue factor.

I haven't shot it enough or with anything other than factory (blazer steel case and american eagle brass case)  loads to have much information for you.  I'll follow up here when I get a chance to run it through its paces properly.  But to be honest, those loads feel like shooting factory .40 in my Glock 27 (they have about the same velocity as factory .40 loads and are the 180 grain).  Not too bad, but not a 9mm either.  One thing I have noticed though is that this gun seems louder than my .40 guns, but it could just be my imagination.

I'm shooting 180's that chrono at about 1350-ish and 200's that chrono at roughly 1200.  They're loud and powerful.  :-)

I have the 20 and love it.  Somewhat new to the gun arena, but where else can you find the same combination of stopping ability and capacity in a handgun?

The same combination as the Glock 20?  While I believe stopping ability is more a factor of the caliber of the shooter than it is caliber of weapon, I think you'll be hard pressed to find a more potent combination of firepower and capacity in a handgun than the Glock 20.
