My son started his firearm safety course last night...
« on: December 06, 2011, 10:04:48 AM »
And absolutely loved it. I'm excited for him. I hope he gets a lot out of it. There's some pressure on him too, though. He has a 10/22 under the tree and it'll end up being a wall ornament until he passes his class and gets his card. :) I think he'll do fine; he REALLY wants that rifle.

Great way to get him started out right. Even though my son (now in his 30's) had been around guns and shooters all his life he took the course as soon as he was old enough. His reward for a good finish was his first shotgun, a Winchester 20 gauge pump that is still one of his prise possesions even though he has several more now. I will bet your son will do just fine as well. That Ruger will hold a special place in his future collection for sure. 8)

Way to go!  A great way to instill a sense of responsibility as well as enjoying some camaraderie with your son.

As a follow-up, he passed and is so excited that he'll get to have his rifle for Christmas. He was really stressing about the test, it was a little funny, but I didn't want to laugh at him and make him more nervous. Overall he said he had a really good time and enjoyed the whole thing.

That's awesome! I'm excited for both of you.
