I've been standing on the sideline too long........picked up my first 91/30 in Sioux Falls this weekend!

1940 Izhevsk with matching #s & bright shiney bore.....

There's a spam can of copper-washed steel cored Rominian 7.62x54R FMJ on the way too!
I know what I'm going to be doing Christmas morning!!

..and don't think placing a shotgun in between would make for a good chaperone. Like most 'kids' they will find a way!

Ahh the wonderful Mosin. 2 weeks after I bought my first gun (Ruger 10/22) I saw these at Cabelas and HAD to get one. Thought it kicked hard until I got a 300wm, now it feels like a kitten. Unfortunately never been able to pattern it, usually 1 or 2 hits on a piece of paper at 100 yards

Oh so sorry to hear about the Mosinitus. Theres no know cure but if you buy more it will ease the suffering some and, fill the safe. I started with the M44 then, 91-59,91-30, and the chinese type 53. Also picked up a Nagant revolver just to go with the rest. Good luck with this.

Classic Arms got some "Select Grade" 91/30's in at pretty darn good prices. They are about 3/4 the way down the page.

That crate full of them would look great as a glass-covered coffee table.

I was drooling over that same pic a couple days ago........& yup .....right in the middle of the living room would be a wonderful spot for that coffee table! It'd be a whole lotta fun to take a close look at a box full like that!

Are there any gun shops around that are known to keep MNs on the racks? I've seen a few here & there.....kinda hit & miss tho

cabelas carries them as well. they are on the racks of guns close to the new AR's. other used mil surps are on the used racks by the gun library.

Classic Arms has the round receivers ($79.99) and hex receivers (Ishevsk for $99.99 or Tula for $109.99).

Is there something that makes the hex receiver more accurate or coveted?

The hex receivers are pre-WWII and tend to just have better fit and finish, that's all. I have a '43 Izzy round receiver that has some horrible looking machine work. The barrel almost looks like it was threaded on the outside. There are spiral grooves all along the length of it. I think they were feeding the lathe really fast when they profiled the barrel. When the Huns are knocking on the door you don't really care how it looks as long as it goes bang.

How about the Ishevsk or Tula? Either one better?
