Renew Handgun purchase permit or not?
« on: January 23, 2012, 07:12:07 PM »
Just realized my handgun purchase permit expired last week. Since I have a CCW permit should I renew the purchase permit? Are there some places that still won't take the CCW?

Thanks

I will always renew my permit if for no other reason, if they ever tally the count it will be counted as a pro gun permit.

If I run into a dealer that can not follow the law, I move on, so it's just a CHP for me

I wouldn't pay the extra money or have to carry another piece of paper in my wallet.  I don't care if someone knows I have a CHP.  In fact, I'm kind of proud of it.  Yes, I realize it's possible the wrong person might find out and target my home for a burglary while I'm gone (he better hope I'm gone), but that's what insurance is for, right?  As for robbers or muggers, it might eliminate the element of surprise, but chances are if they think I'm carrying, they won't target me in the first place.  I don't go out of my way to advertise I have a CHP, but on the other hand, I don't try to hide the fact either.  If someone was determined enough, they could find out anyway.  That probably holds true for any of us on this forum.  A good hacker could probably identify anyone on here.

I believe your CHP doubles as a Handgun purchase permit.Believe our legislature put this into law.

I would rather use my purchase permit to purchase a firearm.  Not everyone needs to know I have my CCW permit.

never hurts to have, and it is only $10.
It is highly likely the above post may offend you. I'm fine with that.

I thought to renew it was $5? I'm sure I'm wrong, but that's just what comes to mind when I think about it.
On-topic though, I'll renew mine. Not because I'm worried about folks knowing I have a CHP, but just to have it. I figure the people I'd be showing the CHP probably aren't the type who would be robbing houses. At least I like to think so.

Somewhere else on the formum, someone said the fee recently increased to ten dollars.  I haven't bothered to check it out, since I don't care to get one anyway.  Since the PPH is done at a county level, I suppose the fees might vary.  I'm not sure.

The fee is currently $5 but LB 919 would change it from $5 to $10.

Thanks for the replies, I will probably renew it one of these days just haven't had time to get down there. Although it is interesting to note that the Lancaster County Sheriff Office's website has not been updated to say anything about using the CHP instead of the HPC. Their information makes it appear that the only way to purchase a handgun is with the HPC.

Thanks Again
