Hi-Point Model 4595 .45 ACP
« on: February 03, 2012, 06:15:58 AM »
Looking for some opinions or reviews about the Hi-Point Carbines. I am looking at the Model 4595 in .45 ACP. Would be a good partner with my .45 Auto Ruger. Anyone own one of these carbines? Has anyone shot or have any experience with one. Would love to hear about it! Thanks!

Ive seen a lot of these carbines come through the range over the years and they actually work pretty well and the owners seem to be happy with them. Now Hi-Points line of handguns are another matter. They are nothing but junk and I cant count how many of those Ive seen break, several times resulting in injury to the shooter. So I would avoid those.

I've thought the carbines that shoot handgun ammo are a great for home defense.  I almost bought one when cabelas had the sale last week.

I've heard bad things about the .45 platform, but the 9mm platform is great from what i hear.

Again, hearsay on my part, no actual interaction with the weapon.
It is highly likely the above post may offend you. I'm fine with that.

Ive shot the 9mm and after adjusting the sights it was pretty accurate at about 40 yards.  low capacity magazine is a bummer though.

Have been disappointed in my 9mm version. PITA trying to clean it thoroughly, have never quite figured out how to completely take it down... Trust me, if you fire a couple hundred rounds through it without cleaning you will have issues. Actually took mine to the range yesterday after a good cleaning and put just over 100 rounds through it and towards the end was getting some chambering problems and FTE's. BTW I had some VERY hot loads, 5.6 grains of bullseye behind 115gr boolit, and wanted to see if it caused any issues. No issues from them but that may also be why there were a lot fewer FTE's than lighter loads. Magazines are sub-par at best and may also be the reason for chambering problems. Used to keep it by my bed as a SD weapon but after having problems it was replaced by the AR-15. Would I buy it again? Probably not; nasty trigger, cheap quality magazines, FTF, FTE, and I don't like the recoil lol. Resting my cheek on the stock gives a feeling like somebody flicking you. Hope this helps.
