Which is it? CCW or CHP
« on: April 05, 2012, 10:11:15 PM »
Just trying to get this figured out. Why do some people us CCW when our cards say, Concealed Handgun Permit?

Sorry if this has been hashed out before, a search didn't bring up anything.

Correctly it would be CHP (Conceal Handgun Permit) but it commonly get called CCW (Conceal Carry Weapon) simply because it gets that designation in a lot of other states.

BigDog...........

In Nebraska you don't get a permit to carry a concealed Weapon (knife, dirk, dirk w/knife blade, bludgeon, stiletto, hand grenade, rock with sharp edges, sharp edges without rock, brick, broken beer bottle, baseball bat, baton, numchuck, throwing stars, etc., etc., etc.)

Instead, you get a permit to carry a concealed Handgun.   A concealed device that goes, "Boom."   So, regardless of what other states issue, Nebraska issues a Concealed Handgun Permit.   Therefore, in Nebraska, it's CHP.

And in Nebraska, you don't take a Concealed Carry of Weapons (CCW) Course to get your Concealed Handgun Permit.    Instead, you take a Handgun Training and Safety Course.

These are the official terms used by the Nebraska State Patrol for the Nebraska Right-to-Carry process.

That's about it.

I've also seen used by some people is a ...CCP Concealed Carry Permit.

As for the Concealed Carry Weapon guess we need to blame the Military
This is my Weapon.
This is my Gun.
This is for K......

Well you know the rest.

CCW is the most common term used for carrying concealed.

As pointed out already, many states are different. For the 3 states permits that I teach, they are:

NE = CHP (Handgun permit only)
FL = CCW (Yes you can carry ANY weapon)
UT = CFP (Concealed Firearm Permit)

Guess i can stop worrying about finding a concealed carry holster for a Mossberg 500 then.  :o
