Laser Engraving
« on: June 19, 2012, 10:30:21 AM »
Ive got a buddy in west Omaha who invested in a laser engraving machine hoping to make a little extra cash in retirement. I brought over a few items for him to practice on, one being this AK stock. He engraved the Arabic lettering for "Infidel" on the right side. I then filled, sanded and refinished it. Didnt turn out too bad for a first attempt at this.

Looks good, any idea on what his rates may be?
It is highly likely the above post may offend you. I'm fine with that.

If you go to http://1shotlaserengraving.com/ he has his contact info listed. He will get right back to you, like I said he is retired and doesnt have anything better to do. His rates are very reasonable and he is local (Omaha).

Excellent! I have a set of 1911 grips and a damascus knife coming to me soon, thinking a matched engraving set may be in order.

Does anyone know if laser engraving is deep enough for NFA purposes?  I think it has to be .003" deep.  I have a couple stamps which should be here any day so I am very interested.

I just got off of the phone with Mike about the NFA stuff. He cant engrave recievers to NFA standards. He explained that his machine will etch metal but wont engrave it.  :(

apparently this one isnt but others can. You change the pulse so that it sits on one spot longer and it engraves it deeper.

Thanks, I'll check it out

just in case people are curious:
I wanted to have him burn the arc show around the safety hole in my AR, like the pictogram. And maybe trace out the FIRE or even a red rectangle. I have a 45 degree safety and as is, the selector does not point to FIRE. Looking to get it all burned in RED. Thanks again will post pics after
