Straightforward Interview
Sgt. Fornoff has been very helpful to me in the past in his role as head of the Omaha Firearms Unit by answering my inquiries about various Omaha firearms situations. He's a no-bluster, even-spoken kind of person. Good LEO, so far as I can tell.
People just don't want to believe Omaha Municipal Code 20-251, which says that if the concealable firearm is brought into the city limits, it must be registered. Immediately. Right now. No 30 day grace period. Applies to anyone bringing the firearm, whether resident or not.
The Omaha Police Will Legally Grab Your Gun if it isn't registered, except for those who hold an NE CHP or from a state w/Nebraska CHP reciprocity. Happens all the time. Happens a lot.
How do you get a handgun registered before bringing it into Omaha? Take the paperwork down to OPD at 15th & Howard, get the gun registered, then go back to--say-- Scotts Bluff, NE, get the gun and bring it to Omaha. That's the desired Omaha drill, believe it or not. That's the standard procedure which must be used by Omaha gun dealers to sell guns in Omaha. Yes......it is. Unless you hold a CHP.
