Thought I'ld share a few pictures...
« on: December 05, 2012, 04:08:23 PM »
After nearly a year in the making, I finally managed to finish my AR build, so in true gun nut fashion it was picture time.

I started with a Spike's stripped lower, CMMG parts kit, and an ATI Stock, finished off with a DPMS 16" upper. I put a Magpul MOE handguard on, and on the bottom section of the guard I mounted a small section of rail, for bi-pod currently, but a light will work as well. I currently run a simple SightMark Reflex, as well as having a 3x9x50 scope on a one inch riser for longer shots.

Anyway, on to the pics:)

Very nice. Do you have any backup sites on it (doesn't look like it)?

I'm getting anxious to finish mine... now even more. :)

No backups yet, planning on a 45 degree offset for the reflex and then a set. The riser is drilled so i have a clean sight picture once i hang a set. And the upper has a gas block with a rail section for mounting.

It goes bang nicely, 1 inch groups at 75 yards with the scope, and 2 inch groups at 25 yards with the reflex, which is why the tape is on the top of the rail. Gives me a mark to mount the reflex after i pull the scope off.:)

Ordered some parts yesterday to finally get my AR closer to what I want mine to look like. What kind of scope is that? And do you have any specific use for this one or is it more of a "fun" gun?

Very nice.  I just finished my first AR recently, I used the same DPMS upper as you have there.  I like it alot, had a 4-5" group using open/flip up sights at 100 yards standing, which is really good for me.  No malfunctions/problems yet.  I don't have an optic yet, I opted to get back up sights first.  I have a set of Yankee Hill Machine flip up sights on mine, they make a front sight that will align correctly to go on that gas block rail.  Mine work well.  There are cheaper ones than the YHM though, but make sure not to put a polymer sight on the gas block(or at least that's what I have read, didn't try it).  You probably already know that though.
Anyways nice build,  Thanks for sharing!

Brad, the scope is a UTG Leapers w/ a Mil-Dot reticle. It is primarily a fun gun, anything beyond 150 yards is Mauser territory.

Kyle, if you are looking for an intro reflex i highly recommend the sightmark. I gave $50 for mine at Scheels.

I'll have to look into that.  I would like to get some type of optic on, they are fun to shoot with.  The guy who runs the gun shop I go to was trying to sell me on a 500 some dollar eotech the other day.  It looked like a really nice optic, but it's a little (actually alot) out of my budget for an optic right now.
