Anyone in the Lincoln area reload .45LC or Casull?
« on: December 10, 2012, 05:10:55 PM »
I need someone to make me a bullet.  I made a solid silver slug, and I need it made into a live round as a gift for a friend.  Can anyone help me out?  I will gladly pay you for your time.

Do we have any members that can help out here?

I don't reload any 45 handgun rounds but I do reload 45-70.  I wonder if maybe we could rig it up to work - I assume you don't want a live round?

Only problem is I'm only in town 2 days between now and Christmas, and I'm going to be busy working then so I probably couldn't get it done in time.

I don't have the equipment for 45colt/454cas.  Die sets for either caliber run $30-$60.  Dunno if a shell holder would be necessary or not (got the grab pack from lee, it prolly can handle 454 just fine... can check later).

I've watched this thread, hoping that someone would volunteer... I'd personally love to do it, just lack the equipment :(.

Here is a pic of what I have done so far.  Slug is made and ready to be loaded.  It's sitting in a casull shell right now, just cuz its pretty, but fits more snugly in a .45.

I'm pondering if to pick up some extra die sets.  45Colt would definitely be in the list, dunno about 454Cas.

This begs the question... 45colt and 454cas have the same bullet diameter (both should be sized 0.452 when dealing with jacketed rounds).

You mentioned that the bullet's been cast, has it also been sized as well ?  If we size it, you'll prolly wanna rebuff it as well.

It wasnt actually cast as silver shrinks at a different ratio than lead.  I got a larger casting and essentially polished/ ground it down until it just barely slides into the used casing.

Just a heads up - no hand loader will touch it / make a live round out of it if it's not sized properly due to being possibly dangerous etc.

It needs to be 0.452 inches in diameter.
