In the early 1980s part of my business involved installing commercial and private satellite dishes. One day I was in the middle of fine tuning a dish, using the ABC live news feed on Westar B. Back then they didn't encrypt that channel because it never occurred to them that others could listen to the live news feed as well as they and their affiliates. Anyway, while I was adjusting the dish I heard "Hail to the Chief". I took a look at the monitor and saw Pres. Reagan walking onto the stage at the NOW convention in New Orleans. He received a standing ovation for at least 10, perhaps 15 minutes. The duration of the applause amazed me because of the way ABC and the other media had been reporting NOW's political stance. He spoke for about 15-20 minutes and during that time, as his custom was, he dropped in about a dozen jokes to illustrate his points. All but one received good laughs from the crowd. He finished his speech and left to another standing ovation which lasted 5 to 10 minutes. After the event Reynolds and Robbins, the talking heads, began discussing how to report this event. Watching them discussing the ways they could slant the story against Raegan and for the radical head of NOW, Elenor Shmeal, was an eye opener. They began the nation wide news cast with the opening lead; "Raegan received a mixed reception at NOW", and played 20 seconds where he told a joke and no one laughed. They left the impression that Raegan was almost run off the stage. Then they followed with a 75 seconds of Schmeal claiming that "Raegan would grab women by the hair and drag them back into the stone age.
Fifteen years earlier, in my college civics class I was required to give reports each week on news articles in at least 5 national news sources. We were taught how the press was made up of ordinary men and women who understood and appreciated our Constitution and Republican form of government. I swallowed it hook line and sinker. Would my professors lie?
After that I began watching the live news feeds instead of the news itself. I lost count of the number of times the anchors twisted the event to match what I soon learned was their "One World Government", Socialist agenda. Many people began writing in complaining that they SAW the events reported on with their own eyes and what they say was in no way related to what was broadcast. The media's response was to encrypt the news feeds. For a while people got a hold of chips which decrypted the news feeds but the media got legislation to outlaw the sale of such chips.
A few years later I encountered another example. While watching a Pro-Life March on Washington on CSPAN the park ranger estimated the crowed in the Washington mall at over one million, nearly twice the size of the pro-abortion crowd a month before. Later, CNN reported that about 80,000 attended the pro-life march. I called CNN and asked to speak to the producer, Ed Turner (no relation as far as I know). Amazingly, they connected me to him. I told him that CSPAN video showed the park ranger riding in a helicopter above the crowd, estimated the crowed at one million -- how could he say it was only 80,000. Anyone with eyes can see it on CSPAN and would know that the crowd was well beyond 80,000. His response was the his reporter reported the crowd size at 8 AM. My reply was "How would that be meaningful or accurate since the march didn't start till 1 PM?" His reply, "We report what we see" and hung up.
He KNEW he was lying. I've never watched CNN since then. I don't watch the news ABC, CBS or NBC, either. They aren't broadcasting the news, they are spreading propaganda with an agenda. While he was a talking head Walter Cronkite had another agenda. He kept it somewhat secret while he was a "news" caster but after he retired he accepted an award from a "One World Government" organization:
Google the group and its various spin-offs. You'll learn what trouble our Republic is in when such treason propagates the "news". Freedom of speech is one thing, but advocating the overthrow of our democracy is entirely different.
