just a rant
« on: March 15, 2013, 09:12:13 PM »
I love shooting my S&W 15 .22 I want to start with that. But after countless miles looking for .22 Lr I am hanging up my S&W I can't afford to keep searching for ammo. I have a range that would rival Hancock.45's I enjoy my Glock 23 at the same time. After todays range time I noticed I had 100 Federal game shok left.. that's all .40 for the Glock I have been fortunate to find a couple of hundred rounds, This is my carry gun so I just need to stay sharp with it. I can't afford to buy the $100.00 a brick .22 at LGS ( that has lost my business) for gouging and I hope he suffers I spent $12,000 there last year, and won't be back. I was at Cabelas today and Sheels People are walking around like Zombies wondering "why there is no Ammo" I shake my head and come to realize the uninformed Voter is now being affected. Will they finally understand what they have done, I doub't it.. Get ready my friends.. I will fight for our rights with my last 100 rounds

People are walking around like Zombies wondering "why there is no Ammo"

I have stopped in a number of stores selling gun related stuff and noticed the typical zombies. They actually walk like movie zombies and stare at empty shelves. I shudder to think of the carnage should a clerk try to load a shelf.

Seriously, spend your down time writting, calling politicians to put an end to this crap. Talk to friends, attend gatherings.
This is not going to fix itself.

Bugging politicians is good.  Always a fun endeavor.

While reloading 22LR isn't something I'd suggest... getting into reloading is also great fun.  It too can be a bit hard at the moment (presses/components/parts can be hard to find at times)... but... still great all around ;)

It IS great fun. After an absence of nearly 50 years I re-entered the reloading arena with a Lee 50th Anniversary Loader.   I was able to find 500 9mm FJRN's a month ago.  I found 500 empty casings two months ago.    I did order 8 lbs of Titegroup about a copule months ago, but MidWay called on another order I had made before the Titegroup and said they canceled it. A couple weeks ago I found a pound of Herco powder, and I have 4 pounds of HP-38 coming.   Two weeks ago I saw one box of CCI Small Pistol Primer MAGNUM misplaced (hidden?) on the shelves of Sheels, but wasn't sure it would work for my 9mm Luger Nano, so I didn't get it.  I wish I had bought it.  When I got home and checked I found that all  I had to do to use it was lighten  the powder load a couple 10ths  of a grain. :(

So, I am still waiting for a brick or more of CCI#500. When I get that I'll be able to reload 500  rounds.

Go pick up a reloading manual.

Right now.

Don't put it off.

I'd suggest one of (or all of in my case heh): Hornady, Speer, Lee.

If you're going to go shopping near reloading supplies, take the book with you.  Make sure your name is in it just in case ppl throw up a fuss.  Many stores also have an opened copy of the book(s) as well and you can look in them.

As far as reducing powder charge vs magnum primers... I'd start far lower than a couple 10th's of a grain myself.  All kinds of physics and mechanics change when using a magnum primer instead of a standard one.

It's ironic.  This administration and it's supporters have done more to sell more firearms and ammunition than any other administration.   All they've done is bolster the industry.  Sales are through the roof, and CHP classes are booked for months.  :D

With that said, I'm stockpiled, but unfortunately won't go shooting until ammo supplies catch up with demand.

All "they" have to do is leave us, the law-abiding citizens, alone.  We're not the problem, yet "they" obviously want to regard us all as potential criminals.  Our "leaders'" world view is disgusting.

Which is obvious to everyone, regardless of political affiliation.  So, why do the Marxists in this country want to destroy the 2nd Amendment?  The citizens right to bear arms is an impediment to their desire to change the form of rule in this country from one of Constitutional Rule of Law to that of "Social Justice" driven by a  Socialist dictator.  Look how the Left in this country are fawning over Chavez, who destroyed the free press,  the free market and the middle class in his country.   How did he do it?  By using tax money to bribe a large block of voters.  Now most of the citizens, even many former middle class driven into poverty by actions of Chavez, look for someone to continue the handouts.  Claimed 90%+ voting margins says as much.    As the former citizens of the old USSR used to complain, "We pretend to work and they pretend to pay us".   Chavez is using the nationalized oil industry to fund the bribes.  When that source of easy money goes away the only thing left to control the people will be the guns the military owns to insure that Socialism won't be overthrown.   Regardless of the failures of their "5 Year Plans", or what ever else they call their "solutions", the Marxists always feel that only they have the solutions to any problems.   All others are "reactionaries".

I don't know your location or what gun store you go to, but before you come down too hard on the local gun shops for gouging, please consider a few things.
1) Are those prices a reflection of the costs they are paying from their suppliers?  Demand is high all over the place and they may be paying higher prices in order to have any stock at all.
2) It's nice that Cabela's and Scheels aren't raising prices, but look at the result.  Bare shelves.  Do lower prices and lack of product help you get ammo any faster or easier?  Low price + high demand = shortage
3) Along the same lines, higher prices play a valuable role.  We've all heard the stories of hoarding going on and people buying ammmo they don't need so they can flip it on line or at a gun show.  Folks are doing it with AR parts as well.  Higher prices serve a valuable rationing function.  The higher the price, the more people are going to think about buying what they don't really need.
4) Demand is up at the retail level and all the reports I see suggest the manufacturers are are full production.  I'm sure there is competition for raw materials and supplies all the way up the supply chain.  If basic commodities like powder and brass are in higher demand across the board, then that is going to be reflected in higher prices all the way down the line.
