Remington AOW Shotguns
« on: June 17, 2009, 02:26:06 PM »
Remington has release another exclusive run of factory pistol gripped shotguns.  http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/premier_dealer_exclusives/model_870_express_7-shot.asp

These are the guns that can be registered as an AOW and transfer for a $5 NFA tax rather than the $200 tax required if a std. shotgun is cut down.

Price would range from $475-$no upper limit depending upon how much of the modification work you do yourself.

Please explain why they need to be registered.  They have an 18" barrel.  Thanks.

I am not familiar with all of the tactical lingo yet - what does AOW stand for?

Any Other Weapon...sort of a catch all for some of the items that don't fit in a definite category. In this case I think it is described as a smooth bore pistol

This is a picture of an AOW shotgun,   it transfers with NFA registration for $5 tax.  To qualify for AOW registration it mus have never had a buttstock on it.

If you took a std. 870 shotgun and configured it exactly to appear the same, it would transfer on NFA $200 tax.

The AOW can cross state lines willy nilly as long as it is legal in the final destination, the short shotgun must get ATF approval to cross state lines.
