optics
« on: June 24, 2009, 08:47:07 PM »
I am not sure if this is the right place for this question so move it if I am in the wrong place...

I am looking at 1-4 variable scopes to mount on my AR.  I like the thought of having non-magnification while at the same time being able to see a target 200-300 yards down range.  I am looking for ideas on good scopes - I don't need the top of the line.  Any ideas???

Roper, I put a 3-9x40 Nikon  Team Primos Monarch on my 18" rifle, and I am finding it acceptable for 100 yards, but I am wishing I had more magnification at times. My old eyes wouldn't find a 4x very helpful at 300 yards

My 16" Midlength has an EOTech 512 and is great for anything up to 100 yards , but I don't really try to shoot bullseyes with it.  It is a very fast acquisition optic for close in (25-75 yards)

Can't go wrong with an ACOG TA01, but it is a fixed 4 power. I put a USOptics 1-4 on my AR, but very pricey. Aimpoint makes a magnifier for there scopes, but I don't know much about them.

Most 1x scopes are not a true 1x, and distort image some, but that is a deep conversation I don't want to get into. You can have anything you want, what do you want to spend?

LitlRat's comment about a magnifier turned on the light for me. I already have an EOTech 511, I'm half way home. Based on the prices of the 1-4 scopes, I think I will add the magnifier to what I have and rock on!  Thanks for the help.

There are a heckuva lot more options than I was counting on. The price target for the millett scopes seem more reasonable that some of the others that I have been looking at. Lots of options, just depends on how much cash a person wants to depart with (not much in my case).

I use a Weaver Classic V Series 1-3 on my Mini-14 and am quite pleased with it.  Midway USA has them for about $160.
