Taking a page from PRT’s book, I’ll be hosting a competition-style skillbuilder clinic for carbine shooters. We will run 5 different drills designed to isolate certain tasks or skills. We will discuss some different techniques, run a few warm-ups, and then: a competitive test! There will be a winner for each particular test who will get a small payout, as well as an overall winner who will get a large payout.

You will need:
Appropriate Carbine or Rifle (AR-15, AK, FAL, etc)
At least three magazines
Ability to carry at least two magazines on your person
Sling for Rifle
Eye and Ear protection
250 rounds for rifle
10x One dollar bills (does not go to instructor)

Also recommended: (Optional)
Baseball style cap
More magazines for rifle
Semi-Auto pistol with holster
50 rounds for pistol
Sunscreen
Water
Snacks

This is NOT a basic-level clinic!!

There are no pre-requisites for this clinic, but please take the following into account:
-Have your weapon zeroed prior to arrival
-Be prepared for targets as close as five yards and out to 100 yards
-Be able to handle your weapon(s) safely
-Know your limits and stay within them

Very interested, I will have to check my schedule.

Since this is not a basic course, what level of experience is recommended?  I've never taken a carbine course, but I've competed in multigun matches for a few years.  Would that be appropriate?

You'll be fine. My main concern with that final bit of info is (of course) safety.

Now... I'm not saying you'll win :) But you'll definitely learn a few things and have a good time.

Eight, but I may open it up to ten if there is enough interest.

Skillbuilder clinics may include a wide variety of topic and drills. Some are strictly focused on the fundamentals, while others are designed to "bastardize" the fundamentals by introducing the use of cover and concealment, target discrimination, physical and mental stress, decision making, moving targets, failure to stop targets, incapacitation drills, low-light environments, and much more. The methodology is the same, but the content will vary (obviously this one doesn't include low light, but the rest is up for grabs)

These clinics are a fun way to learn a few things and test yourself against other shooters. So sign up if you think you are Black Ops ™ enough (now I have to pay Thomas a dollar  )

As far as worrying about whether or not you're ready, as long as you can meet the following, you'll be fine. You might just be slow and akward and we can all laugh at you.  ;)

I think I'll come out and do some shooting with you guys. Mark me down as a tentative. If it fills up to capacity I may drop out to allow a less experienced shooter the opportunity but otherwise it sounds fun.

...and it would be good to have people of all different skill levels and backgrounds just to get different perspectives.

If I went I was planning on applying Rogaine to my face so I could have a beard as cool as Chris Costa's.

Go ahead and count me in. I need to get some time behind the gun without my instructor hat on.
