.22LR at Guns Unlimited
« on: June 25, 2013, 08:29:00 PM »
I just got word that Guns Unlimited received a large shipment of Winchester 22 LR 40 grain black copper plated round nose ammo in 1,000 round packs.

Don't know a price, but I'm sure GU is making it as reasonable as possible.

Please let me make a supporting point for GU pricing practices.

Here's just one example:

Lawrence magnum shot at GU is $41+/25# bag.   Same shot at Cabelas, just five minutes away,  is $49/bag.   Pretty significant difference.

Tom Nichols, GU owner, is trying to stay commercially alive while surrounded by the Big Boxes:   Cabelas, Scheels, Bass Pro Shop.   I've pointed out local higher pricing differentials to him because he has always treated me very well.   He grins his affable grin and says that he has to stay competitive around all these Big Fellows to draw folks back to his store.

Now.....I don't doubt for a Noo Yawk Minnit that maybe something at GU can be found at a higher retail price than the Competition, but in general I've found GU prices to be fair and competitive under current circumstances.    [Not too long ago GU was selling very good quality Peruvian Magnum shot at around $30/25# bag while they had it.   All gone now.]

I would certainly agree that shooting sports prices are generally outrageous at the present time, but that's what happens when demand outstrips supply.   And other hobby-pastimes just aren't as much fun as Pull Trigger - Go Bang!!

I picked 2000 for $120.   Last gun show wanted  $100 for 500. :o

Went over about 11:00 today after going to the gym.  Should have gone earlier.  Salesman said they sold out of the 22LR in first two hours today.
Afterwards, went by Cabala's they had some small 50 and 100 22LR CCI boxes.  Did notice they had plenty of .223 ammo and some .556 this morning.  Most 55gr but is did see some on larger 62 and 75 gr boxes.

I don't shop at GU much. Just some reloading supplies when they are available, but they were priced at or below the big box stores.

That's an excellent price considering the recent market.

Now let us pray to the shooting gods that this panic is drawing down.

Evidently the Walmart on 168th & Maple in West O had 325rd Federal 40gr bulk packs in stock today for $14 a box.  Figures, the one day I don't stop and check there after work...  :(

4.3 cents per round... getting back to sane prices.  I hope it stays that way.

I saw some 9mm in a Grand Island Walmart.  Not a lot, but some and there wasn't a hoard of people looking like starving zombies stumbling all over each other trying to get to it.

Though, some young man assured me that the panic was not going to end for quite some time though.
