AR15 Magazine Weights

For the 24SAC this fall, I'm planning my gear list, and trying to shave every ounce. Ounces=pounds, pounds=pain, pain=me crying like a baby

5*20 round magazines are what I plan to carry.

I haven't been able to find much info about the 20rd mags, but I did find some on the 30s.

30rd PMAG 4.8oz
30rd USGI Aluminum 4oz
30 rd Lancer Mags 4.4oz

I'm assuming that the 20 round mags will follow a similar curve. My question to everyone is do you have 20 round mags, who makes them, and what do they weigh?

i have a few 20rd PMAGS, i have no idea what they weigh.  i use them with a 5rd limiter for hunting.  you can weigh mine if you live in Lincoln.... if you ask nicely i might even let you borrow them.

I got a pile of factory colt steel mags. . ill see if I have something that will weigh that small a item

20 round P-Mag is 3.5 oz, according to my trusty digital kitchen scale...

Factory Colt Steel mags would actually be made out of aluminum, except for the spring.

  your right, been so long since I used a factory mag I forgot, I looked around and I don't have a scale,ill try to find one and let you know what the mags weigh

Is that the Magpul PMAG 20 GEN M3 ?   

BTW, a few fiber bars and a bag of prunes before hand will help lighten the overall load some....just sayin if oz. is an issue.

2.9oz C Products 20rd mag
3.5oz Lancer 20rd mag

I have owned the C Products for a few years before switching to the Lancers. Neither have given me a single problem.

Weight of 4 mags isn't the problem

It's the weight of all the lead, brass and powder that you put inside them that adds up.  ;D

I have a scale the is accurate from zero to 10 pounds, but I appreciate the offer. I've been reading the AARs, and it's the guys that nitpick every ounce that place well. I'm a gear geek, so I'm trying to keep focus on saving ounces.

How heavy is your rifle? While building a lightweight AR, I found there are tons of places to shave weight.

This. Configure the rifle to suit the mission.

If you're only using it for the sniper challenge... I would only keep your optic and absolutely necessary stuff on it. If your optic is reliable, ditch the irons. If you're shooting irons, ditch the optic. Remove lights, lasers, railed handguards, anything that adds weight. You can shave off an entire pound or two from a rifle by reconfiguring it into a lightweight setup for a long hike.

Then again, it sounds like there's a serious possibility of night shooting since it's a 24 hour challenge? You may wish you'd kept that light.

those gwacs cav-15 one piece lowers are supposed to shave an entire pound by themselves, they aren't the prettiest though.

Receiver weight (complete) is almost a full pound lighter than a many complete aluminum receiver with an A2 stock.

A1 Length Integral Stock (5/8" shorter than A2) with sling loop. 13" Length of Pull.

Uses standard AR15/M16 magazines. The wider magazine well accepts submachine gun magazines in pistol calibers. With caliber conversion upper receivers and magazine blocks.

BCM gunfighter grip
Magpul CRT sling

SWFA 1-6X Adjustable scope (still need to buy)

I'll be taking shots out to 500yards. I still need to do some testing, but I've got a Black Diamond Storm headlamp that I'll try to use instead of a weapon mounted light. It throws out to 70 yards. I'd be really surprised if I had to take nighttime carbine shots past that.
