Thinking About Selling a Dragunov
« on: April 17, 2014, 02:10:03 PM »
I have a Romanian made Dragunov I'm thinking about selling because I've had it for over 10 years and have only shot it maybe 50 times.  It's in excellent condition.  It has what I believe is a standard scope, canvas scope cover, leather sling, and I have 4 extra magazines (5 total) and a military carrying case for them, plus some ammo that I would have no use for after I sell it.  I like the rifle but there's no sense keeping it if I never shoot it because I have other rifles I like better.  Any ideas on what I should be asking for the rifle, magazines, and ammo?  Thanks.

If it is a PSL, semi auto 7.62x54r, they go for about $1100 online with the kit you described. I gave $1200 for the one I had a year ago.
It is highly likely the above post may offend you. I'm fine with that.

I don't know what the letters PSL refer to but it is 7.62 X 54R, semi-auto.

The most common Romanian version of a "Drugnov" is the PSL-54c. They also made versions called the Romak III, FPK, FPK Dragunov and SSG-97. They are all basically the same, except for the name depending on the maker/importer.  The "kit guns" assembled and sold by Tennessee Guns, Inc. have sketchy quality and as such they have quite a bit less value. If you can, post a pic or 2 of the info stamped on the receiver.

The prices listed above are a good ball park, depending on condition. Check Gunbot.com for current ammo value(seems to be hovering around 20-23 cents per round depending on retailer).

Ok I looked at the markings.  This is what they say:
FPK Dragunov
7.62 X 54R
Made In Romania
TS (or maybe T6; it isn't very clear) Knox TN

I assume the letters TN mean it's one of the ones assembled in Tennessee, which I guess lowers the value.  So what might it be worth, in excellent condition (since it's been sitting in a gun safe and only been out a few times)?

Ballpark guess would be $900 and up. A lot depends on how bad someone wants it. I wouldn't take anything less than $800 in today's market.

The "Made in Romania" is the good part. That means it was just imported by Tennessee Guns(TG Knox TN), and not assembled by them.

I would look at completed auctions on Gunbroker to find a current value, but would think $1000 on the whole package would be a smoking deal for someone. The mags have been going for $50 and up each lately as the tooling for them was destroyed a couple years ago, and they are not being made anymore.

If I didn't already have one....    ;D

You had me excited there for a second. Then I realized you've got a PSL not a Dragunov. My understanding is that the only Dragunov rifles ever brought into the country are the Norinco NDM 86 and the Izhmash Tigr. Both of those are rare and fetch a pretty penny. The PSL is just another flavor of Kalashnikov whereas the Dragunov action is different altogether.

Did you decide whether you're selling it?

Yes I'll sell it, if I can get what it seems to be worth.  The 4 extra magazines and carrier for them and the ammo for it will be of no use to me after I do so I'll want to sell it all as one package.

It looks like I have around 200 rounds in boxes that don't identify the maker; I bought it several years ago.  And I have a steel ammo can with probably around 200 rounds that I stripped off a steel belt, which have yellow tips, if that tells you anything.  I've fired some from both lots and it all worked, but anyone buying the gun might want to meet me at a range and test fire some so they're comfortable with it.  I'll be selling my Mosin and the Dragunov both and so will have no use for the ammo, and will want to sell it at the same time.

I didn't know that.  It was advertised as a Dragunov when I bought it.

Had myself a Romak PSL about 2 years ago. Definitely a variant of an AK.

I know that the PSL has a front grip that is 2 piece like the AK with a top and bottom wood. The 10 rd mags have an X pattern on the sides. Most of the wood is a light maple stain color.

I am pretty sure that a real Draganov has a 1 piece front grip and the mags have more of a square rib pattern. Wood should be a Russian Red color or more of a black wood.
