Your last statement in above is referring to John Ways Jr. Then it is totally ludicrous as he is in no way an innocent 3rd party. I know the man and his dad. Here's a little background on daddy

And just so you know he plea bargained out of possessing a unregistered full auto M16 w/ attached M79 grenade launcher and live grenades for same, also unregistered. Innocent ? I really doubt it.
I strongly oppose mandatory firearms registration by the federal government or any other government, and my opposition to registration is not limited to GCA firearms but extends to NFA items as well. While I do everything in my power to encourage folks to abide by existing laws for pragmatic reasons (i.e., not going to prison, not losing your civil rights, etc.), I do not believe it is immoral or unjust to break these unjust laws. Folks who are prosecuted under unjust laws are victims of injustice, and my sympathies are with them, not with the nanny state enforcers or the gullible types who eat up government propaganda about the dangers of an armed citizenry.
Also, I would be interested to see how he attached an M79 grenade launcher (a standalone, shoulder-fired device) to an M-16/AR-15. He must be a real innovator!
From a couple of quick Google searches, it looks like Ways ran into trouble relating to a full-auto rifle that he allegedly acquired in the nineties, plus several standalone 37mm launchers (including some single-shot launchers and one rotary-fed repeater) and some ammo. Without knowing more, I would assume that he probably had something like the old ASA "bird bombs" that ATF decided to clamp down on in 2001.
