Reciprocity Question

I had just recently been investigating this subject and looked at this (dated 01/18/2010)

http://www.handgunlaw.us/documents/USReciprocity.pdf

Did we really gain 3 states in less than a month?  Also, didn't we used to have Wyoming?

Didn't I also read somewhere that North Carolina also honored the Nebraska permit?

Wyoming has never accepted Nebraska permits

Guess I remembered wrong.  I figured Wyoming would be surprised if you didn't carry a gun :)

To be honest, you are probably right. A Wyoming Highway Patrolman I talked to said he really didn't care as long as you had a permit from somewhere. He wasn't speaking for all of them though. If thier new legislation becomes law no permit will be needed anyhow.

...and then what happens when they visit Nebraska?  They probably could not carry here, legally(except under Affirmative Defense).

That will be the downside for them.  No reciprocity except for AK and VT.

That is the downside to Vermont. They have no reciprocity to trade...AK does still have a permit system if you want to get one for the ability to carry in other states.

Until all the states go the way of Vermont and Alaska, state permits and the ability to carry outside my home states borders make the permit valuable to me.

Wyoming accepts the Florida permit.  I spoke w/ the Wyoming DCI last month about Nebraska permits, they said that the Attorney General will be reconsidering reciprocity after this legislative session, but wants to wait due to some legislation that may be offered up during the session- he didn't offer what the legislation was.

AAllen,
The Attorney Generals office from North Carolina finally returned my call this morning.  All they are waiting for to recoginize Nebraska is for the "official letter" from our state saying we recognize NC.  They were in contact 2 days ago with Nebraska, so it should not be too much longer before NC recognizes our permit.

Yes, South Carolina has been contacted officially (or it is in process). Depending on how quickly they respond to the request from our state officials, it should happen soon

Wyoming recognizes a Utah permit as well.

Which is why when my NH permit expires I'm planning to add Utah.  Not just for Wyoming but others as well.  Unless of course Nebraska ends up with enough reciprocity for me not to worry about it by then.

In regard to Wyoming: They have just passed and signed a new bill into law. It changes the way Wyoming handles reciprocity.

Very nice, I have occasion to go to Wyoming now days and lived there for nearly 10 years.  Good to hear that they will recognize my permit.

It looks like SC has not done anything since September, 2008: http://www.sled.sc.gov/Reciprocity1.aspx?MenuID=CWP

I will be traveling there in April and really hope things change before I go :-)

I wish you luck Wilson.  April is right around the corner.

Has anyone approached SC?  I know several members approached various states, but I don't know if anyone contacted SC?
