The young girl that was shot at the 4th of July parts, is suffering partial paralysis, of one arm.

She is in need of funds, to get her in the door of the Mayo clinic for treatment.

Donations can be taken to any Cornhusker bank.

Please help out with this, in any way you can.

The ol' "falling out of the pants pocket gun going off" trick.  Amazing.  More likely someone was playing with their heater and BAM!  Some remedial training is needed here.

Stepping outside the actions of adults in this story, we are left with a innocent child with a gun wound.

I will do bullet hole tattoos to raise money for this.  $50 and all the money goes to support this 7th grader.

Have a teen that wants her navel pierced? $40 and all the money goes to this girl.

True.

We also have what appears to be a fairly well functioning arm on that innocent child with a gun wound.  She was able to lift, carry and pet her dog.  I'm sorry that she was shot.  I'm also sorry that her parents appear to be taking advantage of her misfortune.

I hope I'm wrong.

The two are directly connected to each other, so why would we disconnect the cause and effect?  Eliminating the cause allows you to take the emotion of the incident and swing it around like a club at whatever you please.

Mud, Maybe you are correct.  Maybe the girl is just fine and we as a gun community can just look away and not be bothered by it.

its simply unrealistic to think that everytime some idiot does something stupid that whoever is a part of "that community" should pay for it.

when my wife had brain surgery 6 months after we got married and wasn't able to finish school on time or work for a year people didn't dish out money, but you know what I have a job and insurance, while her brain surgery was in December on the 29th so surgery filled deductible of that year, the week in neuro icu (jan of the next year) filled deduct the next year and the continued follow ups filled deductible the following year. I was married for 3 years our plan was shot in the arm we had more debt then we knew how to handle and only 1 income

no one raises money for me, if these people can't take care of themselves they should go to their family, if their family can't help go to their own church

i find it offensive that every time some idgit does something stupid I'm asked to donate money.

I'm very generous with my time and money but the cause should be more than "stupid gun owner"

if thats too harsh then so be it, people need to grow a sack and make things work. I'll bet you these can't afford health cost people have cable TV and internet, theres $150 a month, I also bet that household has a bunch of smart phones, theres $150 a month, I just found them $300 a month to help cover costs

  • When SHTF, which side of the Fan will you be on?
Im sure these folks saw the article in the LJS last week where a lady was complaining that the city should pay for her front end alignment and repairs because she hit a pothole with her 16 year old worn out car.  Because of her letter to the editor, a bunch of people sent her free money in the mail to fix her car.

It started 40 years ago when the free handouts were given to anyone that was able to stick their hand out.  It is the mentality of America today:  Poor Me - Wont somebody give me something...

I agree with Landon & Mud.  There is always money in the budget if you want to find it.  Funny to me how she has no problem wrassling her puppy with her "bad" arm.  (btw - dog food - $50 per month...)

Friends....  I would like to ask for your help.... my wife is trying to by me a Wilson Combat CQB 1911.  The price is $3750.00 + the FFL transfer fee of $20.  Now, here's the deal....  it will take a year for me to get so I am asking in this time of need if each of you would be willing to give a small part in helping me with this "bucket list" item.  With over 7,000 members here, I calculate that only 10% of the members stepping up with only a PENNY a day (1 cent) sent my way ..... I'll be able to check this off my list.  Please ... time is of the essence as I would really like to have it before I go to Thunder Ranch in August of 2015.  Thank you .....

you should set up a donation site where people can give you parts to build your own, it would be a "one piece at a time" type thing ala Johnny Cash

I really do appreciate the empathy toward any child who was hurt. It's a nice thought and people who feel called to give certainly can. However, in this case we know exactly who should pay, and that's the person who caused the negligent discharge.

There are millions of kids out there a person can help through great organizations like Mercy Ships ( http://www.mercyships.org/home/ ) and those kids truly have no hope without assistance. And their hardships were not caused by anyone. But this situation was caused by one person and as long as that person still has any earthly possessions that could be seized, they should be until all the bills are paid.

How does the "firearms community" get saddled with paying medical bills for someone who was harmed by some idiot?  The idiot should be paying those bills.  Just because the idiot happened to use a gun to harm the poor girl doesn't mean that intelligent, safe, law-abiding gun owners should pay his stupid tax.

If one of the parents was the one who shot their own daughter ... there are ways to pay for medical care that don't involve begging for handouts from the general public on the television news.

I have a bucket of rusty nails I'd be willing to donate.  Of course I'd need the bucket back.

Another thing to consider is that, if the "firearms community" (though I reject that that's a legitimate term) were to be seen as organizing around this, it will get misconstrued and spun as soothing some sort of feelings of guilt. If people want to be charitable behind any cause, they should feel free to do so, but doing it on behalf of gun owners will get used against us all by the hoplophobes. Our collective public posture should be outrage toward the imbecile who caused this.

2 years ago , I had to go to Mayo.  Not sure about this 5000 dollars just to get in the door.   I went, paid my 25 dollar office co pay, then paid my percentage after deductible.  I saw two different specialists in two different fields and had numerous tests done.  Not once was I ever told I had to have any amount of money to get in the door.  In fact, tests there were slightly less expensive than Creighton.  Mayo is a not for profit facility.

Additionally, for an injury rehab, Madonna in Lincoln is world class.  Why not go there?

I feel bad for this girl, but based solely on the wording of this report, this sounds really odd.

The difference MAY be that you have insurance and these people do not?  Though maybe the report mentioned that they do have insurance and I missed it.

Ahhh! Roger.  I wasn't sure and was too lazy to go back and read it again.  As you were.
